Making Phone calls to Australia!

The costly long distance phone call is dead. Long live the long distance phone call! Calls to Australia used to be so expensive from the UK, that they were annual events. They were something you had to save up for. But thankfully, the expensive long distance phone call is no longer with us.

Calling around the world has become easier, and cheaper, than at any time in the past. Calls to Australia from the United States used to be almost as expensive as calls from the UK, and were avoided at all costs. With new technologies, this has all changed dramatically. Perhaps the most innovative change in phone calls is the Internet phone service. This service runs though your cable Internet connection. Domestic long distance with this service is often free, and international calls are cheaper than they have ever been. Calls to Australia through Time Warner Cable’s Internet phone are an amazing ten cents a minute making long distance phone calls almost giveaway!

If you don’t have Internet phone, don’t worry, you have other options that will save you money on calls to Australia. Don’t use your existing long distance carrier, because they will still charge you a fortune if they can get away with it. Instead, look for international calling cards for your calls to Australia. Some are as cheap as one cent a minute. When looking at international calling cards, make sure you read the fine print before you buy. The rate might be great, but your calls to Australia may come with a connection fee. The amount of this fee will determine if the price per minute is really a good deal or not, and if not, you should look at a different card.

As the world has gotten smaller so has the international long distance call become much, much cheaper. In fact, not only do we have the super cheap long distance calls today, but free long distance calls are also available through VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) which basically means you can chat to anyone anywhere, in private right from your own computer. Skype is perhaps the most popular nowadays. It's just a little program for making free calls over the internet to anyone else who has their free software downloaded onto their PC.

When making long distance calls to Australia, don’t forget about the time difference. Depending on where you live in the United States, and where you wish to call in Australia, there can be more than twelve or fourteen hours in time difference. I have found that a great time to call is in the evening hours, as that is usually during the day on the other side of the globe. Don’t forget about international access codes when making calls to Australia. These must be dialed before the number to let the system know where to direct the call. If you don’t know what the code is you can usually find country codes in the front of your local phone book. If you don’t have one handy, a quick online search should get you the information you need.

Lastly, when making calls to Australia, be prepared for a little line noise. The connection might either be a bit dim or noisy, but overall, most of the calls are mostly clear and reliable. Find a way to save money on your calls, and you may find calls to Australia something you can do on a regular basis.

So no matter where you live in the world these days, it doesn't cost much to keep in touch which is something we couldn’t have said a generation ago. If you not getting your calls for free, you should at least be getting them dirt cheap. There really is no reason to pay high prices for international calls in the 21st century and that includes calls to Australia.
