The Bluetooth enabled cell phone! |
|
When I first heard the term 'Bluetooth' I thought a new species of Yeti or big cat had been discovered. Yeah, it's sad, but I'm not all that switched on when it comes to technology I'm afraid. But I did know a little bit about infra red, as I've painstakingly lined up mobile devices within range to transfer data between them so when I really got a grasp (through a patient friend), on the benefits of a Bluetooth enabled cell phone, I just though that this was a wonderful new tool that was going to make life a whole lot easier.
So the question has to be, do we really need a Bluetooth enabled cell phone? The answer has to be of course not, not if you don’t want to. But I urge anyone who knows nothing about Bluetooth phone accessories to get with it sooner rather than later as the Bluetooth phone really is a practical gadget even for those that aren't into gadgets. I was surprised to find that my 60-year-old mother had an iPod before I even knew what an MP3 player was. So it's not very surprising that I'm a latecomer to the whole wireless movement as well. In fact, it was just a few months ago that a couple of friends convinced me to spend a bit more money for a Bluetooth enabled cell phone instead of the generic model that I wanted to get.
At the time, I had no clue as to why Bluetooth enabled cell phones were so special or popular, nor did I have any idea why I would need one. But my friends (and a very friendly salesclerk at the mall) took the time to explain what I would be missing out on. I discovered that Bluetooth enabled cell phones have numerous features that would allow me to do a variety of things that I wouldn't be able to do with a standard mobile device. For example, with a Bluetooth enabled cell phone, I would be able to wirelessly transfer things like e-mails, contact information, and other basic content to someone using a similar device. I may not know much about technology, but I know convenience when I hear it! At that point, a Bluetooth enabled cell phone was sounding better and better to me.
Unlike infra red, Bluetooth does not have the tight restriction of range and devices do not have to point towards each other in order to work. There are also plenty of Bluetooth accessories that can hook you up with computers and other electronic devices, and you don't even have to be in the same room for them to talk to each other.
Then I heard that with a Bluetooth enabled cell phone and a special car kit, I would be able to make and receive hands-free, wireless calls while driving. This would of course be a lot safer than using a standard mobile device that I must handle manually. There are even cars that already come with the equipment necessary to accommodate Bluetooth enabled cell phones, and from what I hear, more automakers are going to be following that trend in the next few years.
Because of these neat features, it may sound as though Bluetooth enabled cell phones are significantly more expensive than standard devices. However, that's not the case at all. While it's true that I did see a couple of very high-end devices that came with jaw-dropping price tags, most of the Bluetooth enabled cell phones I checked out were very affordable. Plus, they came from well-known manufacturers like Sony, Nokia, and Motorola, so I knew I would be getting a quality product.
I opted for a Motorola that came with its own Motorola Bluetooth headset which is really kewl, clear, and of course, wireless. I've found that the Bluetooth cell phone headset is just perfect for hands-free and safe driving. I've also purchased a Bluetooth USB device for my old PC, which means I can back my mobile phone data to computer when I arrive home. It's all automatic and backs up and synchronizes the data on boot-up. The cell phone doesn't even need to be in the same room as the PC for this to happen.
If you're ready to embrace technology, I recommend picking up a Bluetooth enabled cell phone. The combination of exciting features, ease of use, and low cost will leave you wondering why you waited so long to convert! Bluetooth headsets, Bluetooth cell phone accessories and wireless communication is the only way forward if you want to simplify, not complicate, your lifestyle.
