Why buy a Satellite Phone in 2009

Actually, no one would purchase a satellite phone just for the sake of it. Apart from the high cost of these devices and limits in styles, there is no practical reason to own one for most folks. Although the options in styles are getting better, more appealing, and costs are falling, the satellite phone is hardly the fashion accessory like that of your average high street mobile. So who does buy a satellite phone? Well, those who are permanently in areas where there is no GSM signal whatsoever. If you find yourself in places where there is no GSM signal on occasions, then renting a satelite phone for the duration is probably the best way to go.

Where to find a Satellite Phone? Nowadays, buying a satellite phone is not dissimilar to shopping for a cell phone plan, just more pricy. In fact anywhere from $275 to $9,500 depending upon the type of services you require. So why on earth would someone want a satellite phone? So far we have learnt that they are less attractive and more costly than the cell phones we have come to love and respect.

So the main reason why folks may need to purchase or rent a satellite phone is because they offer total global coverage. Many options available work just about everywhere on land, sea, and in the air. This is particularly useful individuals or families who live, work, or play in situations where no other means of communication is available.

We all know of the safety benefits of our regular cell phones, in fact there have been countless lives saved because of them over the years, but what the satellite phone does is it goes one step further. Imagine being on an adventure trek in the middle of the Amazon jungle, or deep into the Himalaya Mountains. Quite often our cellular mobile phones are useless in such situations, but with the satellite phone the lines of communication are always open.

But safety and remote communication is not the only benefit. The satellite phone is also able to have more features than a standard set up and even more are being revealed as technology advances. One handy and much sought after feature that is coming into its own of late is the ability of the phone to pick up satellite radio. I would imagine this to be a huge selling tool for service providers within the next few years.

Without any question of doubt, the satellite phone is a very useful communication tool in today's world.
